Basic Philosophy

We are all aware of the various faddy diets that promise great results, only to try them and find that they don’t necessarily work. My philosophy is that since we are all unique, it is scarcely surprising that what suits one person will not suit another. Two people suffering the same dis-ease do not necessarily need the same diet or advice.

My aim is to give clients particular tools with which to optimise their health and once again take charge of their lives. This can be very empowering.

I follow the basic principles of naturopathy, which believes in the inherent power of the body to heal itself naturally and return to balance (homeostasis), given the correct conditions. At the heart of this is a realisation that the daily cleanse that takes place at a cellular levels must work efficiently. When there is an obstruction in this natural process, a lack of freedom and movement occurs and in the attempt to correct these conditions, the body will produce certain symptoms such as a cold, stomach upset or headache. Naturopathy recognises that these symptoms are part of the solution, not the problem itself. When these symptoms - which should be seen as part of a healing crisis or acute phase - are repeatedly suppressed, then the problem moves to a deeper level, eventually resulting in chronic disease.

Detoxing and Hydration

We are all subject to stressful conditions in our lives – whether it is emotional, mental, environmental or from our diet. These stresses cause hydration levels to fall and this hinders the way that cleansing takes place at cellular level. The toxic build up that results is a primary cause of illness and disease. Our first aim, therefore is to ensure that the toxic waste that has built up over the years is gently eliminated. This is achieved by removing those elements of your diet that are actively contributing to sluggish conditions and adding those that will promote proper elimination of toxins and provide the most hydration.

Naturopathic Techniques

Where many cleansing diets fail is that the resulting symptoms of detoxification can be so unpleasant that many people will abandon their new regime after a few days. This is where various naturopathic techniques (such as special baths, compresses, hydrotherapy, etc) can be so useful as they can bring energy to those organs that are struggling, thus alleviating unpleasant symptoms.
